A girl at long last

I appologise for the orientation of this 1st picture for some reason it is the only way it would load to the page

Never did i think i woulod have 3 children let alone finally getting a little girl
after having my 1st at just 17 ( turned 18 a month after i had him) we waited another 5yrs before deciding to have another who despite my wishes at the time was another boy

when we found out just a few years later that i was pregnant again it was a real shock  ( well kind of ... i attend a spiritual church where we have meduims connect with spirits , i was told i would be pregnant with a little girl within 6 months , it was that weekend i got pregnant )

so in august of 2011  5 days late my gorgeous paige arrived in allher pink and pretty glory finally fufilling my dreams ofone day having a girl
there were several things i wanted for this page when i started it and that was to create something soft and dreamy yet girly and feminine with a touch of sparkle
i wanted to use a velvet paper to represent the velvet dress she wore ather birth and i wanted to incorperate the bow from off of her head band that she also wore
and ofcourse allthe details surrounding her birth

the princess section aswell as the birds were actually joined into the background sheet when i first picked the paper up so with a bit of time and effort i removed it and the birds  destressed it and ran a ribbon of beads along the bottom
i also enhanced the lines of the birds using as brown pen so that they stood out a little extra and adhered them on pop-dots
i truely believe that its the extra little touches that can totally change a page for the better  and im happy with what i achieved here on this page with just a few minor changed to the background elements

sleeping beauty was once again inspired by the elements,in this case the castle , the princess dress , and the horse and carriage
i had so many pictures of this moment but i simply couldnt choose between just one ortwo of them so printing them at different sizes and adhereing them in a staggered fashion at the right of the page was my solution for this

this was one of my 1st attempts at both clustering and ribbon pleating and the results probably show that  but all in all im happy with the results and i guess thats all that matters

i think the biggest thing i took from this page is that even if the pictures arent perfect if it holds a memeory or they are important to you dont be afraid to scrap them anyways
you might just make a beautiful page  that you love and preserve what could have been a lost memory in the process

twinkle twinkle little brat

By the time you finsh reading this blog and looking at these pictures youll have a fair idea of the kind of kid my little dylan is
yip you guessed it  a troublesome one , noisey, mishcevious , fullof life and discovery
his nickname is demolitian dylan and it suits him very well
on this given day he had gotten in to my scrapbook supplies and tipped out / eaten a tube full of glitter while i had popped to the loo and was caught glitter handed right in the middle of it all
i couldnt help but go and get my camera  im always looking for oppurtunities to embrasses my kids at their 21st and when they have their own children (does that make me a mean mummy ?)

i like my titles to reflect the theme of my page and a good friend came up with this one that fitted just perfect

Now i'll admit to being a scrapbooking horder but wheni geta new product i canthelp but use it on the latest layout which is this case was flower buttons and red glitter ribbon
I knew istantly that the red ribbon would work wonders with this theme and also came accorss the silver stars which thought might work somehow  ( looking back i think i could have done without them but i do like the charector they add )
The flower buttons thankfully happened to be in the right colour scheme and by layering them one on top of the other  i managedto get in all the colours i wanted without making the page to cluttered
in this case  i used the number 2 button as an age indicator instead of a date
and by grouping a few tags together i managed to create a area for my journalling aswell

poor boy will never live this day down and im sorry for him but there are plenty more of where these came from
and when im old and his children are causing him chaos and he reminds me that he was never like them as a child i will happily pull out these pictures and remind him he was just as bad as they are  but we still kept him anyways because without it all he just wouldnt be the dylan we know and love

The colours of this paper worked so well with that of the photo and provided me with everything i wanted in just one piece of paper and a few scraps
I work slightly backwards when i scrapbook i take inspiration for my pages from my embellishments and work outwards
for this page it was as simple as the stamp id just aquired YOU MAKE MY HEART SING
instantly i thought of wild thing and seeming dylan is such a whirlwind of a child always into one thing or another and constantlybeing refered to as monster it worked rather well
The first thing i did on this page was the journalling and the rub on words to express the fun and delight of this day
I then stamped my stamponto the orange paper and worked outwards from there arranging my remaining papersand photos
I seem to work this way often which i guess is bizzare but for some reason it works for me

I find we often getto caught in trying to work the page around the photos and not always coming up with what we had invisioned so this way you eliminate that and make the pictues fit the page once youve decided your other elements

I love doing these each year  jotting down the likes , dislikes , favourite things , funny traits or big events of that year for each kid
It dosent have to big a big long statement just a few quick words that will bring back the memories of that time
Youd be suprised the changes in just one year

Favourites first

Well without further ado i present to you my all time favourite page ...The waiting game
I had scrapped this picture previously but it just didnt work out like i planned  that was until i discovered this tiger paper while attending a beginers class
I have been scrapbooking for a few years but had sooooo much still left to learn and figured it was a good way to meet new people and get away from the kids

We had just learnt about paper curling , fussy cutting and destressing ( shame it wasnt the kind i was thinking , i could use some with 3 kids at home )
I knew i wanted to create the look of the tiger having ripped thru the page  which i managed to achieve with the paper curling
the grey reverse side worked well with the 2nd paper i choose which was the blue ,orange and grey behind the photo
I also knew i wanted to highlight more of the red star burst paper that id matted the picture on but how to achieve this without removing the tiger from the page and still leaving room for the title
fussy cutting and a bit of destressing of course ( i had to use a nail file for such small spaces but the results are worth it

the rest was a matter of fiddling and finding what worked
poking leaves here and there for that slight jungle feel
finding the right colours for the title and deciding where to put the journalling
i used october afternoons school house script for the title and also adding the 09 at the bottom to comemerate the year

after placing my title i dint feel there was room on the page for the jornalling so i made a tag with the blue, grey and orange paper  made a pop-dot pocket on the back of the page and tucked it in there

This photo was taken just days before my 2nd child Dylan was born  it was easter school holidays and after my 1st child arriving after just 45 mins of contractions i was to damn scared to leave the house just incase
we brough a bunch of face paints and gave jayden free reign on my belly which ended up  being a giant easter egg

after we had finished he asked if i could paint his face but with only 3 colours i wasnt sure what to do
he knew exactly though ... A BLUE STRIPPED TIGER
My art skills areshocking but he was happy and so darn adorable to

baby Dylan was born 3 days later after 10 1/2hrs of labour ( go figure )
